I am still focusing on one thing at a time, last week after we reviewed the IRB Proposal I sat down and thought of themes that my research question would fit into. The themes I have so far are social interactions, reading motivation based on socio-economic status, and gender related motivation.
I also thought about my methods. I am debating weather I should implement book clubs during school hours or before and after school. I am not sure if having book clubs after school will negatively impact students perceptions of them. I want students to be able to choose their own book and group of students they want to participate in the book club with.
As far a data collection I have not narrowed down what I want to focus on. I am thinking about one on one parent interviews or surveys (pre, mid, and post). I want to collect data from my students by having them present their reflection about book clubs. I will also be interviewing students as well as observing the interactions with their peers.
The next thing that I need to work on is organizing my cabs, my notes are very messy and all over the place. This week I will work on organizing them so that I can access them easily as I begin to use them or even weed out the ones that I don't need.
I really like how you broke down your process. It gave me a sense on how to tackle my project. I'm still overwhelmed by the IRB as I missed last class, but I'm hoping to catch up. It seems the IRB needs to be our priority now as it's a) due next week b) needs to be submitted to the university soon. I mentally block things that are so far away but it's good to have a perspective and a sense of direction. Thanks for sharing your to do list :)
