Final Question/IRB anxiety

Well, it's official...for now, at least I have my question.  I have had many ups and downs during this commitment process.  I have been anxious and nervous about picking the wrong topic to commit to for a year...awaiting my literature review from Grinell has attributed to this angst, however, my heart is in this question. I will still be able to add in the growth mindset theory, however I will be able to research something that may greatly impact student's motivation to read and their comprehension.
Here is my question as of this moment:

What happens to students' reading comprehension when multicultural literature is read and discussed in a fifth grade class?
If anyone has any advice or readings to recommend I'd happily accept :)
It feels really good to be looking at articles and be excited about what I am reading-FINALLY... I am still really nervous about all the IRB paperwork (and the lit review draft), but as Marin said-Just keep swimming...One day at a time, one assignment at a time, I'll keep my head up and just continue doing what I can.
I am not sure about anyone else-but I just emailed my CT to request the demographics of the class I'll be in for my IRB paperwork.  It is so detailed! Methods, plans, specifics, details, and more plans!
I thought I had no life the last year and a half in this program.  Now, however, looking ahead to full-time student teaching, writing my PACT, and researching for this project-oh man! All I can say is I am thankful for this cohort- we are in this together!

  1. Yay! I voted for that one. :D I'm glad you decided. It feels great to have that part behind you so you can focus on your project.

  2. I like your question. It is important work, positive, and will conjure up some really interesting conversations. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
