Katie's Blog #5

I feel less intimidated by literature review writing after today's class. Here's what I brainstormed during the process, beginning with my question:

What happens when first grade students are given an individualized writer's workshop goal regularly?
*Common Core and Writing
            -Why writing matters
-Common Core as reaction to high stakes assessment/culture of accountability (full on copied this phrase from Jolynn/aka mentor author... it's probably place holding)

*Effective Instruction for Emergent Writers
            -Differentiation (even w/larger class sizes)
            -Workshop model

*Assessment in Primary
            -Measuring progress in meaningful ways
            -Self-assessment
            -Importance of feedback

*Writing Attitudes

It's rough, but it's a start, and a way to continue organizing articles and deciding what's relevant. I felt like a bit of a slacker this week with my birthday being Monday and our wedding anniversary being Tuesday, but now I'm ready to get my head back in the game. And I better be, because a little over a week to go!
