Katie's Blog #4

After blogging, merely hours ago, that I was content with my research question, it has evolved. It's now:

What happens if first grade students are given an individualized writer's workshop goal regularly?

I tweaked the question because I do not want to only focus on artifacts (student writing) in my methodology. I would also like to look at student participation during writing time, perhaps enthusiasm, etc. I envision giving each student a weekly or biweekly writing goal that is appropriate for that student (i.e. use finger spaces, or listen for first letter sound, or add feeling words, or be ready to share your work during a conference). I'm also wondering if the writing goal will translate to writing in other content areas. If a first grader's writing goal, say use finger spaces, is taped to his/her desk, will that translate to writing in science? Just some musings... research on!
