Feeling the Pressure

Hooray for our good-enough questions! It was a big relief to hear that my question was given the okay to proceed, although I still feel that it is rather broad. Maybe that is okay because I am not sure what I want to look for when I implement journaling. Hoping this comes out in my research or as I read some more. Speaking of reading, I really need to pick up the speed on that. I am accepting that the next three weeks will be intense and that I really need to stay focused and plan out time to work on all of our assignments, so that I can dedicate more time to reading for the lit review.  I would like to get through a large portion of the IRB tomorrow. It is hard to think about all the details we need to explain and justify in the IRB, when I am just beginning to think about all the possible methods for my research. I also think it would be really helpful to see an example of the various consent forms we need to write up. Goal for the week: finish IRB… and start on the new lit review.

  1. I totally agree with you on feeling the pressure...for me it's hard to think about filling out the whole IRB when I feel like I am just scratching the surface with my reading...like you, I need to find more time to read for my lit review, but where does the time go??? I feel like I am in a constant state of trying to catch up!

I am trying to remind myself to fill out the IRB as broadly/non-speficially as possible so that as my process/data collection changes/evolves, I have some wiggle room. It might mean more work for now, but it will be worth it, I think!

We can totally do this! It'll be interesting to see where everyone stands with IRB today in class...

  2. I was so relieved with the good enough questions, too! One thing out of the way . . . I also worked on the IRB on Monday and I was shocked how long it took to write it up. Ack. I will be working on it a lot this weekend as well as more reading for my Literature Review. For the IRB, I need to come up with survey and interview questions within a week! I agree, Marin; where has the time gone? This class is so important and I feel like it should be a semester course, not a summer course.

Don't feel alone, Cristina! I have to start over my Literature Review as well. My goals are the same as yours, finish IRB this week and start a new lit review.

    Just keep swimming, ladies . . . :-/
