Two IRBs walk into a pub... & then something incredibly boring probably happens.
I am a little intimidated (& severely underwhelmed) at the prospect of submitting an IRB. I feel like writing an IRB will be like waiting in line at the DMV in order to apply for healthcare by filling out tax returns just to get a prescription of poison oak. I might be overly dramatizing the situation.
All that to say, that I am really, really, really not looking forward to this part of the process. I am not very good at following directions and I am even worse at filling out paperwork. But no one said doing research was going to be easy. And really this entire process should be anything but easy. Just as precious medals are strengthened only by fire, we will become stronger teacher-researchers through difficult processes.
So bring the IRB on! If any group of people can take something boring and turn it into something exciting, we can! Let's do this!
Danielle, your posts make me really happy. They are so entertaining to read! I know that's probably not why you wrote this one, but it's entertaining nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, we can totally do this! I share your feelings about the IRB, it feels like the paperwork you have to fill out every time you go to see a new doctor or join a gym...endless paperwork that is extremely repetitive... but we'll be glad when it's done! One thing to check off the list not to worry about for this fall (once we've completed it, of course...)
