I've started some research on student centered learning in the context of history but havent come across too much information/ articles worth keeping yet. I plan to toy with various key words to see what I come up with. To document this I have a page in my notebook dedicated to "key words already explored" and another titled "key words worth exploring"
As for teacher candidate stress, I've been thinking of ways to rephrase that research question:
"What happens to teacher candidates’ amount of alcohol
consumption in times of high stress?" and I am thinking of adding this bit to the end of it.."-- after they are introduced to ways of
positively cope with their struggles?"
I'm feeling like i really need to pick one ASAP. But I am absolutely torn.
Daisy,
ReplyDeleteYou have such a good idea. I love that you are tracking the already exhausted key words searches and the new potential ones. Thank you for sharing that! I'm going to use that idea for my project. Sometimes I feel like I keep sifting through the same articles over and over. This is going to help.
Daisy,
ReplyDeleteI love your topic on incorporating student's personal histories/cultural history into the history curriculum and lessons. I think that it is very important for students to feel that their cultures are being incorporated / as well as valued in the classroom curriculum. I don't really remember discussing or learning so much about my culture when I was in elementary school or middle school. However, when I was in High school, I was part of "Puente," a program/English class dedicated to motivate Latino students to go to college. In this class I remember reading many books written by Latino writers such as Sandra Cisneros. Specifically, I remember "House on Mango Street," and I loved this book because I found many things that I could connect to such as the importance of family. Being in this class helped me stay more in touch with my roots.culture and as a result I feel that it made me really value where I came from and the history of my people. Let me know if you want to hear more! :)
Hi Daisy,
ReplyDeleteI love both of your topics. They both have passion and your voice behind them and I know you will succeed at either. It is uncomfortable to not find the amount of research you are wanting, but hopefully by phrasing and rephrasing things you can find some beneficial research.
I am really interested in hearing that you would want to observe high school students for the history question. I think high school students have a better idea of their identity in the world and the use of personal culture/history really reaches out to them.
Anyways, I think you are on the right track, even though you are torn. I would say, "Go where your heart tells you to go," but I think your heart is in both questions. I hope you're able to find the research you are looking for and decide which question you feel is best. Keep at it, girl!
