Also, I found the article for tomorrow helpful since I am stuck at that stage of picking a question and putting it into words. The articled helped with taking baby steps and what to expect along the way. It reminds me of our first semester when a group showed a clip from What About Bob? talking baby steps. All we need to do is "set small reasonable goals for ourselves, one day at a time"...baby steps.
The research process can be tough. But you don't have to do it alone! This blog is a collection of our reflections on the process and a place for conversations between projects.

There's SO Much!
I was pretty happy this week because I found an article/book that was really helpful. It gave me a bunch of researchers that have studied schools who are involved with art integration, it gave me new possible terms to look up when searching for articles and what not, and it gave me ideas for multiple different directions I could go with art integration. This article was great in the fact that it gave me many different ways to go, but it was harmful to me and my decision making because of the same reason. Before I was just hoping something would come to me and I was learning more toward engagement in content using art integration, but then this article talked about a million other different things like the social outcomes of art integration. Now I'm torn again on where to go. But a good thing is that I am not totally stressed yet, I feel like it may all come to me soon. The fact that we get to research and get help in class eases a lot of stress. The support we all have is very comforting!

Christina,
ReplyDeleteI can greatly empathize with the concept of taking baby steps, as I tend to be a whole-picture kind of person. In doing so, I found the blue checklist that Jolynn gave us of the whole thesis process broken down helpful in managing the "big picture" from now until next year. At least now that I can SEE the elephant I am eating, I can rest assured with confidence that I have mapped out how to eat it!
One thing that may help with falling down the rabbit hole (because a reading opens up your mind to many more areas to research and explore!), is to begin indexing the articles by themes.
Perhaps in doing so, you will begin to either gather enough momentum to commit to moving in the direction of the new topic, or realize that there is really more wise to focus on the direction that you are currently headed.
One thing I love about a thesis is that you can always "mention" areas you ran across that can be further addressed, or outliers that you did not get to consider--in hopes that others may take up the torch, or to simply express that you were interested/aware of the area, but it just could not fit into the scope of the research at hand.
