Third Blog Post, Nicole Hiebert

I've had time this weekend to read over research articles and cite my findings.  For a while, I was just looking for articles that related to my topic, but now I'm looking back at all of the articles I have found!  My goodness, I have a lot of reading to do!  However, the readings are really interesting so I am finding myself enjoying it.  I am trying to read the articles to find common themes throughout the readings.  I hope to get a lot of work done this weekend.

I am still a little unsure about the Literature Review, though.  I feel better after Jolynn's mini-lesson on Wednesday, but I'm still a little wary.  Now looking back at my Literature Review I turned in EDTE 260, it is an annotated bibliography without the citation.  Ouch.  So I have some work to on my lit review, but I'm trying to focus on new readings at the moment.  I know writing the lit review is not going to be easy, but I just cannot start it yet.  We have four weeks left . . . Wow this is already going by really fast.

I re-read H&P Ch.2 and it made me grateful that we have such an awesome writing community in our class.  People have been giving me articles and I've been sending out articles and I'm so glad I'm not doing this alone.  I can't imagine taking on such a large task (MA thesis!) without a group of colleagues and I appreciate the feedback and support I have received.  Another thing I took from the reading is that I want to finalize how I will collect my data so I can better prepare for the IRB proposal.  I have a general idea of what I want to do, but I want to make it more concrete.

Overall, just as Alissa has written below me, I am feeling better about this project.  I know it is still in the beginning phase of formation, but I'm feeling better than the beginning of the class.  I still have some concerns, but I hope those will resolve throughout this process.  Yeah, MA projects!

  1. I am in the same boat as you in many ways, Nicole. After the mini lesson last week I went back to all the articles I already had and looked specifically at their findings to find themes. Also, when I look at the project as a whole it seems overwhelming with all the components involved, but what has helped me is making lists (I love lists!) of everything I need to do this week, this month, and then what the next steps would be. By giving me more doable taks to accomplish, I am more likely to work on the project (especially outside of class).
