The research process can be tough. But you don't have to do it alone! This blog is a collection of our reflections on the process and a place for conversations between projects.

I love dogs! But what breed specifically? (Maybe that's a bad metaphor...)
As I got home late last night after my flight, I sat down on my couch filtering through the HUGE list of articles that I think are somehow sort of related to my subject, and I am still struggling with committing to one dedicated path! I'm sifting through all the different avenues and options and it's just confusing me. I think that what I really need to focus on is finding the path that most intrigues me (even if I don't know how to make a question out of it) and become and expert on that topic so that I can start to figure out where I can make a meaningful investigation. I wish I knew what the classroom I'm walking into in the fall is going to be like/sound like/look like...maybe that would help me refine my focus. I'm totally in love with my topic...but that's like saying I love dogs. I need to narrow down a breed. Or maybe I'm really looking for a mutt? Guess I know what I'm doing tonight...Readreadreadreadread

Marin,
ReplyDeleteLike you, I am worried about the classroom I will be working in. Will the room, and students meet the needs of my study? So many what-if's! I have been trying to narrow down my searches, and have decided that there is just too much out there. But I understand your frustration of having too many passions to nail down just one. What may help is searching one, incredibly specific topic, and then slowly moving the research outwards. It might help you find that perfect breed!
Thanks Amelia!
ReplyDeleteYou know, after meeting my CT in person and getting to talk about the school, classroom, and her teaching philosophies, I am feeling so much better about this whole process! I hope that others have a similar experience of relief. It's still a lot, but it's helped me narrow my focus to what will work in that classroom while still being an area that I am really interested in. I think I am narrowing the breed down!
